Tuxedo Computers are putting Ubuntu Linux in the bin to use Debian for Tuxedo OS

Tuxedo Computers have announced plans to officially drop Ubuntu Linux for their own Tuxedo OS, as they will be moving directly to Debian.

Their blog post goes over their reasoning which many Linux users will resonate with – they want to take back control of what they’re shipping on their own hardware. They’re not happy with Canonical replacing more and more software with their own Snap packages, along with Ubuntu’s new AI plans which they say “remains insufficiently transparent”.

Another part of the problem has been updates – Tuxedo want to backport newer software on a more stable base which was becoming more difficult with Ubuntu.

So they’re officially moving over to Debian directly. Specifically, they’re going with Debian Testing and they will be sticking with Debian Testing which they’re calling “Continuous Debian” which allows them to “continue our hybrid release concept on a significantly more suitable base” – making updating software for their users a lot easier like new kernels, browsers, graphics drivers and so on.

A teaser shot they included where they mentioned: “Fastfetch already reveals the new Debian base of TUXEDO OS. The final design is still under development, but underneath, the system is already running on Debian”:
