Mistfall Hunter is an extraction ARPG that blends together mechanics found in some other popular games, and it’s out now working well on SteamOS / Linux. I picked up a personal copy to test it and I can easily see myself slicing through hours and hours of this one.
I was concerned about the Bellring Anti-Cheat system, which is noted on our dedicated anti-cheat page. Especially as their PR team did not reply to multiple emails enquiring about it before release. Thankfully, it hasn’t been a problem with the Proton 11 release.
There was an initial oddity on my Valve Steam Machine where the first load gave a plain white screen, but a reload later and it works without issues now. Some screenshots below taken on the Medium overall preset on Steam Machine (SteamOS):
More about it:
“The gods are dead, and the Gyldenmist is devouring the world. Revived by a mysterious girl named Dew, players awaken as Gyldhunters and descend into a bleak, forbidden realm to gather precious Gyldenblod and repair the broken Web of Fate. Every run is a high-stakes hunt: loot deep, survive the fog, and carve a path to safety before rival hunters take everything. Reach a Returner Woodling and you extract with your haul intact; fall, and it’s all left behind. Hunt solo or in three-player squads, wield magic and steel with weapons you can swap mid-battle, and return to a world that reshapes itself every season.”
- Hunt solo or in a three-player squad: fight back-to-back to bring down towering monstrosities and outmaneuver rival hunting parties.
- Magic and steel: choose from six distinctive classes, then switch weapons mid-battle to counter whatever the mist sends at you.
- A battlefield that never sits still: each season reshapes the world with new content from fresh classes, forbidden arcana to uncharted zones, and ancient relics.
- Skill over spending: no pay-to-win, no purchasable stat boosts. Every victory is earned in blood.
I’m going to take away some points for their lack of text and UI scaling though. They are committing the sin of expecting people to be sat right in front of their monitors / TVs to play. It’s the middle of 2026 – every game should have easy text scaling.
Nice to see another popular multiplayer game working on SteamOS / Linux right away. Especially after I burned out on ARC Raiders, I needed a little something else to dive into.
