GOG Patrons (extra supporters of GOG) voted, and so Thief: Gold has officially entered the GOG Preservation Program joining many other games.
They’ve put some nice effort into this one too. You get the original Thief: The Dark Project before the Gold edition existed and on top of that you also get: German, French, and Polish localizations, updated graphics and audio defaults, improved UI scaling, optimized controls, and the latest NewDark 1.27 engine update. On top of that, working with the community, they’ve integrated the Gamepad Mod into the game with the GOG Input Wrapper to bring full support for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Logitech, and Amazon Luna controllers.
Seems like the best of all worlds – the original, plus various enhancements for modern platforms.
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the original Thief into the GOG Preservation Program. With this release, we wanted to honor the incredible work the community has been doing for years. That’s why we’ve updated the GOG version with NewDark 1.27, bringing massive compatibility improvements for modern PCs. A huge shoutout goes to Peter Wright for his fantastic Gamepad Mod, which we’ve integrated alongside our own GOG Input Wrapper to make Thief play beautifully on modern controllers. And for the purists: you can now launch the original, pre-Gold version of the game with a single click in the launcher. See you in the shadows!

With that done, they’re moving onto the next GOG Patron vote for what game should enter the GOG Preservation Program with new candidates including: Nox; Lands of Lore 1 & 2; Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor; Silver; and Albion.
